Goat’s Milk for Breakfast

on October 20, 2013

Otsego County upstate New York is beautiful. One of its showplaces is the Beekman 1802 property in Sharon Springs. I visited two summers ago and got a personal tour by Dr. Brent Ridge who owns this treasure with his partner, Josh Kilmer-Purcell.

As elegant inside as out!

The highlight for me? Meeting their goats, the original raison-d’etre of this whole enterprise (they surprised Martha Stewart with homemade goats’-milk soap and the rest is history!).

Goats couldn't be friendlier!

I’ve really enjoyed selling the Beekman Boys’ two cookbooks, the most recent of which is just stunning, The Beekman 1802 Heirloom Dessert Cookbook: four seasons of vintage recipes with a modern twist.

I’ve never tasted goat’s milk which Brent says they drink regularly now. I did have curried goat in Jamaica years ago…I don’t recommend it. I’d rather these guys stay intact, make milk, and pull the welcome wagon.
